Epupa Falls
Epupa Camp

There is no better way to discribe this beautiful setting than quoting from a traveller's diary.

"Wednesday
my second week in Africa:
Epupa Falls on the Kunene River (Namibia's north-western border with Angola)

On all my travels through Southern Africa, I haven't encountered a place like this. A destination so remote and unspoilt, as if forgotten by time and progress. It is a true wilderness that has rewarded me with an unexpected and multi-dimensional beauty over the last couple of days. (Especially after the long drive through the arid and desolate Kaokoland)

I'm said to leave. Not only this place, but Epupa Camp and the friends that I 've made here. I'll miss the oneness with nature that I've felt here. The special treats that have made me feel at home ... Topping the list, no doubt, was the sundowner on the hill overlooking the falls. A soul soothing sensation.

Ti was almost too good to be true. This hide-out, practically a stone's throw from the magnificence of the falls, hidden in lush green surroundings of makalani palms and huge overhanging wild fig trees. It has definitively been more than a welcome comfort.

This morning woke to the echoing cry of an African fish eagle. Watched the sun ripen in a kaleidoscope of colour over the mountains banking the river, whilst driving in an open safari vehicle to a traditional Himba village.

My visit to this extraordinary tribe (they still live according to the ancient traditions of their forefathers) was a definite highlight in all my travels. I don't think that photographs or words would ever be able to capture the dignity and pride with which such true individuals live in harmony with nature.

Well, the sun is about to set. I'm sipping on a last drink before dinner. If tonight's feast is anything compared to last night's, Im in for another palat expanding experience. Until tomorrow ..."

We belive this says it all !
